This year at Brighton Tattoo Convention, we are delighted to announce that the world renowned Alex Binnie, will be bringing a live exhibition, ‘Truth & Beauty, A Print Retrospective.’
The owner of the gone but never forgotten, Into You Tattoo, and now 1770 in our very own Brighton, is a self-taught tattoo artist and printmaker. Alex started his drawing career as a medical illustrator before he became a tattoo artist primarily focusing on large scale tribal, Japanese and traditional style tattooing, and later began to pursue a life long interest in printmaking, in particular screen printing and woodcut.
Alex has shown work in a variety of international group shows including, La Luz de Jesus, Los Angeles, Drawing Center, New York, Horse Hospital, London, Rise, Berlin, Royal Academy summer show, London, Aomori Print Triennale, Japan and Epidermiques, Lille, France.
“I’ve been making tattoos for 30 years and prints for about half that. I enjoy the process of both as much as the end result, they are both technically challenging art forms with a lot of history behind them. Most of my print works are in some way tattoo related, and I enjoy the craft aspects of both. All my print work is made 100% by me, without the use of computers or digital print. Much of my recent work is hand printed by me on a printing press made in 1933. Over the course of the convention weekend I will cut and print a two colour reduction or ‘suicide’ lino print on each day. You can watch me make the prints and buy them directly from me before they are finished! “
We are honoured to have Alex make his magic this year, a must see of not just your weekend, but your year.
